Printer redirection enables the users to print to their locally installed printer from a terminal services session. The Terminal Server client enumerates the local print queues to detect the locally installed printers. This list is presented to the server and server creates the print queue in the session.

The terminal server will then create a redirected print queue and enable the users to print to the local printer from within the terminal server session. From the remote desktop connection client click on show options, then select the local resources tab and under local devices and resources option select printers.

The printer is a local network printer connected through TCP/IP to the client machines. They can print to the printer locally but are not given the printer as a option when connected via Terminal Services. I have only done this once before and it was years ago on a 2000 server so I very well could be missing something simple.

We can redirect client printers as we used to normally by enabling the Printers checkbox in mstsc -> Local Resources -> Local devices and resources (this is enabled by default in mstsc). Redirected printers on the remote session will now be installed using TS Easy Print and do not require any configuration on the server by TS administrators.

Check the settings there. The Printer Spooler services obviously has to be running on the server. You should only need to install drivers in some rare cases. Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Printer Redirection.

Log on as an administrator and install the printer as a local printer with Standard TCP/IP Port or other custom port as required for this specific printer.
