Conclusion. We are surprised that the RTX 3070 – although Ampere has no VR optimizations over Turing – is generally able to provide a slightly superior VR experience at the same settings over the RTX 2080 Ti. We think that the RTX 3070 is better than the RTX 2080 Ti is for VR, even more so than for pancake gaming.

In my opinion a 3070 will probably be more than enough for vr games until the next gpu generation. My reasoning behind is that the VR market is still not the largest market so it doesn't attract that many AAA developers since there is more money to be made in flat games.

Nvidia RTX 3070 - is 8GB of VRAM Enough? DLSS Gets New Features! If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device.

Great for vr, rtx 3070 is equivalent to 2080 ti ! According to Nvidia, the 500$ rtx 3070 is as performant as 2080 ti. That's still not cheap but way way more affordable and vr games are very demanding

Like what has already been mentioned, a 3070 will not get you high frames at 4K in AAA games. In my opinion it’s more of a 1440p high refresh card. I was slightly underwhelmed by my 3070 and was hanging out for a 3080 (I play at 1440p 165 Hz). You can also forget ray tracing as it is basically a performance killer.

A fierce follow-up to its killer GeForce RTX 3080, Nvidia's beautifully engineered RTX 3070 Founders Edition is a practically perfect graphics card. Gamers aiming for high-resolution, high-refresh ...

It is understandable for NVIDIA to retain the GDDR6 standard for the RTX 3070 in lieu of GDDR6X or HBM2 memory, and while the effective bandwidth is on par with the previous generation, the RTX ...

10 gigs on a 3080 makes no sense to me, I have 9 on my 1070, I'll wait and see if Gigabyte & Co. release some 3080 or 3070 with an amount of vram that makes sense for the year 2020. R5 3600 - GTX 1070OC - 32GB 3200 - NVME - 3440x1440 160Hz - VR(Quest 2)

3080 is unusable in VR with Rift S. I have both 2080 and 3080 in same Windows 10 PC and can simply move the VR from one to the other and completely opposite performance. 2080 works great, 3080 is horrible.

So the 3070 is powerful enough for the current Gen titles but as high resolution headsets get introduced and AAA games starts relying more on crazy high resolution textures (like CoD) the 3070 will become more and more obsolete due to the lack of VRAM. The fact that it has the same amount as last Gen RTX 2060s is kind of off-putting to me.
